Support for Mood Dysregulation

You are not alone

For when your emotions feel too big, too intense, or too hard to manage on your own.

Most people arrive on this page because their emotions feel too intense, too unpredictable, or too exhausting. Mood dysregulation isn’t a diagnosis. It’s a pattern that many people experience when stress piles up, routines fall away, or life changes faster than they can keep up.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by your own emotional world, you’re not alone, and it’s something you can absolutely improve with the right support.

What Mood Dysregulation Actually Feels Like

Most people don’t walk around thinking they have a mood problem. What they notice is that their emotional reactions don’t match the situation, or they switch between feeling fine and feeling overloaded without warning.

Common experiences include:

• emotional ups and downs that don’t make sense
• losing motivation for things you used to enjoy
• irritability or emotional overload
• difficulty regulating reactions
• feeling flat, foggy, or overstimulated

If this sounds familiar, you’re not imagining it. Stress, burnout, emotional load, and long term pressure can all make mood regulation harder than it should be.

How I Help and Support Mood Regulation

My role isn’t to diagnose or take a clinical approach. I help you make sense of what you’re feeling, understand the patterns behind your ups and downs, and build practical tools so you feel more steady and in control.

In our work together, we focus on:

• understanding what triggers your emotional shifts
• easing overwhelm so you can think and respond more clearly
• building simple grounding and regulation habits
• strengthening confidence and trust in yourself
• shifting old thinking loops into healthier, more helpful responses
• reconnecting with your identity, motivation, and direction
• supporting you through flat, foggy, or overstimulated states
• creating a calmer internal baseline so daily life feels more manageable

You don’t have to figure this out on your own. With the right tools and support, your emotional world can become far more stable and predictable.

What Sessions With Me Look Like

Our sessions are conversational and grounded. We explore what’s happening underneath the emotional ups and downs and build simple, achievable strategies you can use right away.

Expect warmth, curiosity, and real guidance.

Common questions

No. You do not need a diagnosis to seek help. Most people I work with have never seen a psychiatrist or psychologist. They’re simply overwhelmed, stuck in emotional patterns, or unsure how to regulate their reactions. Counselling is a place to unpack this safely, without labels or pressure.

Not always. Mood dysregulation can happen for many reasons, including stress, burnout, trauma, emotional overload, or long term pressure. While some clinical conditions involve mood instability, many clients experience dysregulation without having a disorder. If at any point it looks like specialised assessment might help, I will guide you appropriately and support you through that process.

This is extremely common. You don’t need to arrive with answers. Part of our work is exploring what drives your emotional patterns and helping you understand what your system is trying to communicate. Clarity often comes once we slow things down and look at patterns from a grounded perspective.

You are in control of the pace. We focus on what feels safe and manageable for you. You never have to share anything before you’re ready. Many clients start with practical tools first and open up naturally as they feel more grounded and supported.

Yes. When your emotions are hard to regulate, relationships often absorb the impact. Together we look at communication patterns, triggers, attachment dynamics, and emotional cycles so you can respond in ways that feel calmer and more aligned with who you want to be.

Yes. I work with teens who are navigating anxiety, low confidence, or identity challenges, as well as parents seeking support to better understand and connect with their child. Sessions are adapted to suit the client’s age, communication style, and comfort level.

Most clients begin to notice a shift in clarity and emotional awareness within the first 2–4 sessions. The pace of change depends on your goals, the depth of what you’re working through, and how actively you engage with the tools and reflections between sessions.

It’s also important to remember that we’re all human, growth isn’t always linear or straight forward. At times, you may feel like you’ve hit a plateau or that progress has slowed. This is completely normal. Often, these moments mean you’re processing deeper emotions, working through subconscious barriers, or healing layers of past trauma.

Lasting transformation takes consistency, patience, and self-compassion. Together, we’ll track your growth, celebrate the wins, and adjust strategies as you evolve, so every stage of your journey has purpose and meaning.

I use a mix of practical, evidence based approaches including DBT informed skills, grounding strategies, behavioural tools, communication skills, emotional mapping, nervous system awareness, and cognitive reframing techniques. You’ll learn tools you can actually use in daily life, not just talk about in theory.

Yes. Everything shared in session is confidential and treated with care. Information is only shared with your consent or if required by law, for example, where there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others. Confidentiality and trust are the foundation of this work.
